The JLDB is busy this month as we prepare for the holidays. The week began with a board meeting at my home, during which we welcomed one of our new co-sustaining advisors, Barb Coleman. The New Member Social, held on December 2, was a big success, and prospective new members were able to hear the diverse perspectives ranging from a sustainer (Diana Lee) to a recent new member (Kaylee Hatcher). This weekend the fall new member class holds its Toy sale at the Thrift Store, now back downtown at JLDB headquarters at 122 S. Palmetto. The drive will offer an opportunity to meet Santa, buy delicious baked goods and catch up on some holiday toy shopping. The event takes place from 10 to 2.
Next week, of course, is our annual Holiday Social with the Sustainers at Oceanside Country Club. This is a fun evening that gives everyone a chance to pause and reconnect in the middle of the year. We round out the month with the delivery of food baskets through our partnership with the Great Kids Explorers Club. These baskets will be used to tide families over during the holiday season, when kids are no longer receiving free meals at school. We hope you will take the opportunity to volunteer to either fill or deliver baskets. It’s a great reminder of what the holiday season is truly about!
