A Human Trafficking Education & Awareness Event
Every 30 seconds another person becomes a victim of human trafficking. To bring this epidemic greater public attention, the Junior League of Daytona Beach has annually hosted “Light the Way,” an afternoon educational symposium and luncheon on the problem of human trafficking.
Initially held in 2015 and again in 2017 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort, this year’s speakers featured a prominent panel of community leaders including:
- Jose Ramirez, Special Agent, Florida Department of Law Enforcement;
- Ashley Oramas, Victim Specialist Human Trafficking Unit, Office of the State Attorney;
- Terry Pettengill, Shared Hope International Ambassador; and
- Jamie Rosseland, a survivor of human trafficking.
Ticket sales for this year’s Light the Way event have ended, but there are many other opportunities throughout the year to learn more about the problem of human trafficking. See the League’s Human Trafficking Initiative for more information.
